Vitalik Buterin Proposes New Programming Language for Artificial Intelligence
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has unveiled an idea for developing a new programming language aimed at simplifying the review of artificial intelligence outputs. This language could be compiled into formal proof tools like Lean or HOL. Buterin believes that as the use of AI models in software development expands, these tools will be capable of generating complex mathematical and technical proofs, but understanding and verifying these outputs can be challenging for humans. He suggested that human-readable sections should be separated from the technical details of the proofs. The goal of this language is to make AI outputs more readable. Buterin explains that the internal steps of a proof should be mathematically sound, and there is no need for humans to read all of them. Definitions of concepts and technical specifications should be written in simple language. He also noted that large language models can produce proofs usable for Lean. This proposal comes alongside efforts by Ethereum researchers to develop a version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) with formal proof capabilities and zero-knowledge proof support. Buterin believes that using code with formal proofs can enhance the security of blockchain software. However, he emphasized that this idea is still in the conceptual stage and no prototypes have been released.
